We have just learned that there were some comments

made on the youtube website under our videos for the

Battle in the Desert. We would like to invite all fighters of

all styles to come to our tournament and compete before

you comment. We appreciate all the competitors from

Sweden, Colorado, California, Arizona and other locations

that have come to our tournament. We believe that you will

have a great time, as well as a fair competition. Our

tournament is July 23, 2011. Come compete with us in

true kyokushin spirit. We do not discriminate – any organization

is welcome to come and compete.

We ask that our students do not sully the Kyokushin Spirit by

making negative comments on web pages. If you have a

problem with the way things are run, talk to the organizers and

make your complaints known to them. We sincerely wish to

make the tournament a great experience for all that will stay with

them for a lifetime. We wish to honor Kyokushin, and the

competitors that compete, not tear them down by negativity.

Webster defines character as:

- one of the attributes or features that make up and distinguish an individual

-the complex of mental and ethical traits marking and often individualizing a person, group, or nation <the character of the American people>

-reputation <the scandal has damaged his character and image>

- moral excellence and firmness <a man of sound character>

When you become part of the Kyokushin family at Tiger’s Eye karate you are giving your word to develop and exhibit more than a martial art. We would like our students to learn and to perfect character qualities that reflect our school and Kyokushin karate. Respect, loyalty, strength, and perseverance are just a few that we strive to teach them. Understanding that everything you say and do will be a reflection on the Kyokushin way, the other students and the Sensei at our school.

The symbol you wear on your gi, t-shirts and hats is not just a symbol to some. It is a way of life. The culmination of years of hard work, training, and sacrifice of the ones who came before you and those who are continuing the tradition of Kyokushin.

We do not want our community to associate Kyokushin in any way with people of bad character. The character of our students should shine no matter what situation they are in. It is not just a matter of being respectful and showing good character qualities in class. They should exhibit these throughout their daily lives.

How you treat others and yourself will be noticed by those around you. Do not think for one moment that people are not observing the way you act. Are you lazy in school, class or at work? Do you treat others disrespectfully or bully them? Do you refuse to listen to those in authority? These actions can cause many negative consequences in your life and on the very tradition that you vow to uphold when you join our school.

What you learn from Kyokushin should not only be used in class. It will carry over in your every-day life. You choose the character qualities that you exhibit in life. I challenge each of you to choose the qualities that are not only going to lift you up, but others as well. Choose to be one who leads with character that brings positive direction to not only you, but the ones around you.
